At a glance

Write your brand’s style in one plain sentence: who you dress, for which moments, in which pieces. Publish it on a Shopify Our style page, then repeat it on your homepage listing, Shopify Knowledge Base and social profiles. AI assistants can then describe your brand correctly and recommend it.

Time: about 3 hours

Cost: free

Developer: not needed

A shopper asks an AI assistant, “What kind of clothes does this brand make, and are they right for a June wedding?” If your site never says in plain words who you dress and for which moments, the assistant guesses.

A brand style statement is one plain sentence that says who a fashion brand dresses, for which moments and in which pieces. A correct description sends better-matched shoppers, which grows AI Traffic: visits from AI assistants and search.

A salesperson

calls the brand modern, timeless and high quality, then lists every product.

A stylist

says who the brand dresses, for which moments and in which pieces.

Why does describing your style in plain words grow AI Traffic?

A plain style statement grows AI Traffic because assistants describe brands from the words they find, so one repeated sentence supplies accurate ones.

44%

44% of AI-search users say it is their primary and preferred source, ahead of traditional search (31%) and brand or retailer websites (9%).

5–10%

A brand’s own website often supplies just 5 to 10% of the sources AI search references. Affiliates, user content and other third parties supply the rest.

Say the same sentence everywhere you control, so every source agrees.

What does a good brand style statement look like?

A good style statement names who you dress, what you make, the moments they dress for and one fact only you can claim.

Keep it to 25 to 40 words, in words shoppers type, such as wedding guest or linen dress. Reuse the occasion list from Product descriptions that name the occasion, so your statement and your descriptions agree.

This before and after uses an imagined brand, not a real store:

VersionStatement
BeforeExample Studio is a modern, timeless fashion brand focused on quality and elevated essentials.
AfterExample Studio makes tailored linen dresses and separates for women who dress for weddings, work and weekends. Every piece is cut in small batches in Lisbon, in sizes 4 to 20.

Not worth it if

Your About page already names who you dress and for which moments. Add that sentence to your homepage listing and profiles, and skip the new page.

How do I check what AI says about my brand in two minutes?

Ask three assistants the same two questions, then note every answer that is wrong, vague or missing your best pieces.

  1. Ask three assistants. In ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, ask: “What does Brand Name make, and who is it for?” Use your real brand name.
  2. Ask for a recommendation. Then ask: “What would I wear from Brand Name to a June wedding?” Note whether the answer names your real pieces.
  3. Read your own pages. On your phone, open your homepage, About page and social bio. Check that each says who you dress and for which moments.

How do I write my brand style statement by hand?

Write four short answers, then join them into one statement of 25 to 40 words.

  1. Say who you dress.Describe one real customer in a few words: age range, life stage or setting. Skip “everyone”.
  2. List what you make.Name your two or three core pieces in the words shoppers type, such as linen dresses.
  3. Name the moments.Choose up to three from one list: wedding guest, workwear, holiday, party, date night, everyday.
  4. Add one fact only you can claim.Use where it is made, the sizes you cut or the fabric you use.

How do I publish my style statement on Shopify?

Publish the statement on an Our style page, link it from your footer menu, and repeat it in your page and homepage listings.

Save your current listing first

Copy your current homepage title and meta description into a note before you overwrite them. Search engines may rewrite listings, so what shows in results can differ from what you enter.

  1. Add the pageGo to Online Store › Pages and click Add page. Title it Our style. Put your statement first, then three short paragraphs on who you dress, your signature pieces and the occasions. Click Save.
  2. Link it from the footerGo to Content › Menus and open your footer menu. Click Add menu item, choose Pages, select Our style, click Add, then click Save menu.
  3. Write the page listingOpen the page, find Search engine listing preview and click the pencil icon. Enter “Our style | Brand Name” as the Page title and your statement as the Meta description.
  4. Set the homepage listingGo to Online Store › Preferences. Enter a homepage title and meta description that repeat your statement, then click Save. Google can take weeks to show the change.

Where else should I repeat the same sentence?

Repeat the sentence in your Shopify Knowledge Base answers and on every profile that describes your brand.

Shopify Knowledge Base is a free Shopify app that previews the facts AI shopping agents use about your store and lets you add your own answers (Shopify Help Center, 2026). It works behind the scenes and does not show these FAQs on your storefront.

  1. Install the appInstall Shopify Knowledge Base from the Shopify App Store, then open it from Apps.
  2. Add a brand questionClick Add FAQ. Enter the question “What kind of clothes does Brand Name make?” and paste your statement as the answer, in one or two sentences.
  3. Add an occasion questionAdd “Which occasions is Brand Name good for?” and answer with your occasion list in one sentence.
  4. Test itClick Test your knowledge base, enter one of your questions and check that it shows a match.

Then paste the same sentence into your social bios, Pinterest, marketplace or directory listings, press kit and email signature. Change only the length, never the facts.

How do I write my style statement faster with an AI agent?

An AI agent can read your best sellers and draft three style statements in minutes, and you approve every word before anything is written.

Use Shopify Sidekick in your admin, or the Shopify connector for Claude or ChatGPT. All three follow the same five steps.

  1. ReadYour 30 best sellers and your current About page
  2. ProposeA table of facts and three draft statements, nothing written
  3. ApproveYou edit the table and say apply
  4. WriteThe page text, saved as Hidden, never live
  5. VerifyRead it on your phone, then publish

Copy the prompt that matches your tool.

Sidekick prompt
Look at my 30 best-selling products and my current About page.

Read their titles, descriptions, fabrics, colours, collections and tags.
Show me a table of the facts you found: who the products seem made for, the 3 core piece types, the occasions they suit, the fabrics, and one fact that looks unique to the brand. Mark any fact you are unsure of.
Occasions must come from this list only: wedding guest, workwear, holiday, party, date night, everyday.
Then write 3 style statements of 25 to 40 words. Each says who the brand dresses, what it makes, for which moments, and one provable fact.
Use only facts found on my store. Do not invent details. Do not use the words timeless, elevated or modern.
Write in my brand voice. Two examples of my own sentences:
- "[YOUR EXAMPLE 1]"
- "[YOUR EXAMPLE 2]"

Do not change any product, price, inventory or discount. Never delete anything.
When I reply "apply" with the statement I chose, give me the text for a page titled Our style: the statement, then three short paragraphs. I will paste it into Online Store > Pages myself.

Show me a table first. Do not change anything until I reply "apply".

Nothing is written until you reply apply. The prompt never touches prices, inventory or discounts.

Nothing is written until you reply apply. The page is created as Hidden, never live.

  2. Choose one statement, then reply applyChange any word you would not say yourself. Read the page text on your phone.
  3. Publish and link itIn Online Store › Pages, set the page to Visible, then add it to your footer menu as in the steps above.

Sidekick drafts page text only, so you paste it. Claude can create the Hidden page, but Shopify says results vary more there, so check it. Rerun the prompt each season and after any big range change, then update the page, listings and Knowledge Base answers together.

What else do founders ask about brand style statements?

Founders most often ask these four questions.

How long should a brand style statement be?

A brand style statement is one or two sentences, 25 to 40 words. Name who you dress, what you make, the moments and one provable fact. Keep it short enough to repeat word for word on your Our style page, homepage listing and social bios, so every source says the same thing.

Where should I put my brand style statement?

Put it first on a dedicated Our style page linked from your footer menu. Then repeat it in your homepage listing, Shopify Knowledge Base answers and social profiles. McKinsey found a brand’s own site is often only 5 to 10% of what AI search references, so repetition matters.

Can I ask ChatGPT to write my brand description?

Yes, as a first draft. Give the assistant your best sellers and two sentences in your own voice, ask for a table of facts first, and check every fact before you approve a statement. Remove generic words such as timeless or elevated, because a line that could describe any brand will not help assistants recommend yours.

Do I need a developer or a paid app?

No. The Pages editor, menus, homepage preferences, Sidekick and the free Shopify Knowledge Base app cover the whole job, and none needs code. Adding a page and a menu link does not change your theme layout. An agency or freelancer can also do it for you if you prefer.
